YPE provide mentoring to athletes in their youth development phase

About Youth Education Performance

We are an independent organisation that has carried out research over the last 3 years within the Youth Development Phase (14-16 years of age) different elite pathway sports that are regulated within the United Kingdom. We have identified that there are significant gaps in the education specific for performance for young developing elite athletes, particularly noting that Education provided by clubs/coaches is brief and inconsistent, this can sometimes be down to limited resources or lack of effective implementation for the athletes. Using feedback from developing athletes in each age group, we have developed an enrichment curriculum to support the wider aspects of performance. We offer a provision that is flexible around commitments, online and supports young athletes at different points in their Macrocycle season. We have piloted different strategies and sessions with players individually from different clubs and sports across the last twelve months, which has informed our provision and offerings for athletes in their Youth Development Phase.

Research carried out so far...

We have surveyed and interviewed almost 500 young athletes who are currently competing on an Elite pathway - club/county/national level. We asked a series of questions around their last season with their clubs and coaches to which we received so much feedback that indicated help and support is needed for these young athletes, of which club/county/national provision is struggling to provide and effectively implement.  Click here to view some commentary from our survey...

Lauren has taught across different levels of Sport from Level 2 (GCSE) to Level 4/5 (Undergraduate) for over a decade, she has a passion for youth development and has been building a vision that supports athletes in the youth development phase of training, understanding a lot of young athletes struggle to understand the wider aspects of elite development, for example, understanding performance development, nutrition, resilience and coping with performance pressure. We believe that with confidence in knowledge comes effective and positive performance progression.
